Welcome to a lunch conversation about what craft is and what it can be! In a conversation between artist and researcher Theodore Harper-Davis and design professor Elena Raviola, we explore the intersection of craft and data through coiling, data visualization, and digital fabrication.
Within the framework of the Horizon Europe research project Hephaestus Theodore Harper-Davis and artist and programmer Fredrik Garneij from Studio Alight’s experiments are presented.
The experiments bring into sharp focus the question of what craft is and what it can be, as well as what it is that travels through time and space: is it the craft object or the movement? Ultimately, the encounter between hands and digital code raises questions about the heritage of craft and how it is carried forward over time.
The conversation discusses what these translations make visible or invisible, how they register emotions, and what will come to be valued. Lunch and coffee is included.

Samtal Hantverk och data: Från objekt till rörelse
Välkomna på lunchsamtal! Vad händer när hantverksarbete möter dataarbete? I samtalet mellan konstnären och forskaren Theodore Harper-Davis och designprofessorn Elena Raviola utforskar vi skärningspunkten mellan konsthantverk och data.
Vi presenterar Theodore Harper-Davis experiment tillsammans med konstnären och programmeraren Fredrik Garneij från Studio Alight, inom ramen för Horizon Europe-forskningsprojektet Hephaestus. Samtalet diskuterar vad dessa översättningar synliggör eller osynliggör, hur de registrerar känslor och vad som kommer att värderas. Våra experiment ställer frågan om vad hantverk är och kan vara, liksom vad det är som rör sig genom tid och rum: är det hantverksobjektet eller rörelsen? I förlängningen väcker mötet mellan händer och digital kod frågor om hantverkets arv och hur det förs vidare över tid.
