By going back in time to the beginning of industrialization and looking at how women worked at home with machines in a meshwork between craft and industry, we set in perspective the contemporary organization of care and repair work both in fashion design companies and in the craft of independent craft makers.

By moving between economic history and contemporary practical experience, we will shed new light on craft’s sustainable futures. In a practical workshop, the Gothenburg design company Nudie will engage with textile repair, and a discussion will follow about the history of repair, its implications for the organization of craftwork, and its potential for the making of our future.

The activity is part of the ongoing project Brave New World: Tales from a Craft Utopia.

In collaboration with HDK-Valand.
