Book Launch: Urban Creativity

Lansering och diskussion av den redigerade volymen Urban Creativity om offentliga rum, demokrati och urbana interventioner.
The public space is perhaps the most important aspect of a democratic society. Urban Creativity describes how different urban subcultures interpret and use public space by intervening in the city’s order. These interventions temporarily or permanently change the city’s meaning, function, or accessibility.
The essays are the result of an interdisciplinary research collaboration initiated in 2018 at the Pufendorf Institute at Lund University around the theme of Urban Creativity. The texts are thus characterized by diversity both in terms of scientific context and content, and address different aspects of self-initiated interventions in the city, both within and outside Sweden: graffiti and street art, the Occupy movement, and the free-party movement.
The authors come from diverse backgrounds, and the texts draw on sociology, economics, law, art history, and urban studies. They examine both physical and metaphysical, as well as material and symbolic aspects of the use of the city.
A panel conversation on urban creativity and public space will depart from the book and take us to new directions. Three authors of Urban Creativity will be present and Elena Raviola will moderate the conversation.
