Gothenburg design festival at the Röhsska Museum

The Röhsska Museum participates in the Gothenburg design festival for the third time. Within the context of the festival the museum highlights the 100-year anniversary of the Bauhaus school, immerses the content of the current exhibition Ocean Plastics and presents projects by students at HDK – Academy of Design and Crafts.

Bauhaus 100 years anniversary

The Röhsska Museum highlights the 100 years anniversary of the Bauhaus School through the project The Weaving Workshop Revisited with exhibition, conference and workshops. The starting point is the significant work by textile artist Anni Albers within the Bauhaus school.

In the Röhsska Museum´s collections there are several objects from Bauhaus and during the design festival the museum specifically wants to highlight the ones presented in the permanent exhibition The Röhsska Museum’s Design History.

Ocean plastics

The exhibition Ocean Plastics presents a selection of conceptual design projects which address plastic pollution by questioning our relationship to the sea, presenting strategies for cleaning up the oceans, recycling existing plastics and exploring the merits of bio-plastics. In conjunction with the Gothenburg design festival, the exhibiting Dutch-Italian designers studio Formafantasma and Norwegian architects Snöhetta, whose work is included in the exhibition, will be giving artist’s talks on their practice and work in Ocean Plastics.

HDK at the Röhsska Museum

The Röhsska Museum wants to create possibilities for students at HDK to present their projects to a wider audience. During the festival Box Summer Studio Festival occupies the Röhsska Museum´s courtyard, HDK Zine Archive highlights fanzines and Designsalong presents projects by bachelors at HDK.

About the Gothenburg design festival

The Gothenburg design festival is an interdisciplinary meeting place and an arena for design, craft, architecture and fashion. The festival wants to evoke curiosity, increase knowledge and create new relations between arenas for design architecture, arts and craft. Various participants contributes to the content of the festival programme – galleries, students, professionals, culture entities and others. The Röhsska Museum offers a special programme for this week.

The Weaving Workshop Revisited

During October the Architecture hall in the museum will be transformed into a weaving lab where different ways of practice-based research will be explored. The Weaving Workshop Revisited is held on occasion of the 100-year anniversary of the Bauhaus school.

Box Summer Studio Festival
