An Extraordinary Chapter in Swedish Textile History
An Extraordinary Chapter in Swedish Textile History
Exquisite patterns, vibrant colours and outstanding craftsmanship – Bohus Knitting has captivated both style-conscious audiences and knitting enthusiasts in Sweden and around the world since its breakthrough in the 1940s.
What began as a relief project in Sweden during the 1930s evolved into an iconic design phenomenon, worn by international stars such as Ingrid Bergman and Grace Kelly. This exhibition highlights the distinctive aesthetic, compelling stories, and global impact of Bohus Knitting, while offering new perspectives on the organization and the people behind its success.
The museum has a long and significant relationship with the Bohus Knitting Association. Our collection includes not only a remarkable range of garments, but also knitting samples, pattern charts, and materials that provide a unique insight into the process behind these much-loved sweaters.
